Hydro Floss Oral Irrigator Review
I guess this article would be classified as a review of the hydro floss oral irrigator based on personal observation and use. This is a tool that should be talked about.
A while back, my dentist and her hygienist assistant told me that something had to be done about my gum disease issues. I could tell that they were very serious and really felt strongly that I needed this treatment.
Their plan involved something called a ‘scaling and root planing’. This is also referred to as a SRP.
I wasn’t pleased to be told this. It just didn’t sound like it was something that I wanted to go through.
I was further unnerved upon hearing the assistant say that she would use nifty tools that she had special training to use in order to reach deep under my gums to remove a build up of debris called calculus (tartar). She also intended to make the surfaces smooth so that it would be harder for calculus build-up to return.
This procedure appeared to be even worse than I first imagined. It was no comfort to hear her say that she could numb my gums so that I wouldn’t feel a thing!
At this point, I knew it was going to hurt whenever the medication wore off. This was not the kind of life experience that I would remember fondly.
She explained that should I decide not to have this therapy, they could not be held accountable for what could happen to my teeth. I was asked to signify my understanding by signing a waiver that they had in the office. Could things get any worse?
Candidly speaking, I imagined that I was becoming the victim of some slick marketing tactics. It was difficult to believe this was anything other than a slick marketing ploy.
Then there was the ‘straw that broke the camel’s’ back for me. The hygienist told me that it would be best if they started today. She wanted to substitute this new treatment for my regular cleaning.
The logic she used made sense. The big sticking factor seemed to be insurance. If I chose to get the regular and standard cleaning done, my insurance could choose to not pay for the advanced treatment in the future. I really felt, at this point, that I really needed to think about this and I wasn’t willing to commit just yet.
There was a little voice in my head that was very strongly opposed to the idea of this new procedure, so I said, “no”. I was not asked about signing the waiver again, I thought that was interesting.
All of this sounded a bit ‘off’ to me. I felt that their HAD to be another way to heal my gums.
I was surprised to discover that a person I knew had undergone this procedure. She confided that the outcome was not good in her opinion.
I hunted around for a possible solution and that’s when I ran across the hydro floss irrigator. I decided to get one.
I was very hopeful when the package was left on my doorstep. For some reason, they were supposed to send me a video with the HydroFloss but it was not to be found in the package.
I fired off a note, asking if I could please have the missing video. It was easy sailing from that point on and I received the video. I was absolutely excited after viewing the video.
I was pretty confident that this tool was going to help me and I committed to utilizing it daily.
It was several months later when I went back to visit my dentist. The reaction I received made my very happy.
The same assistant and doctor took a good look at my gums. Each agreed that there was a vast improvement. They said that I would not need that scaling and root planing treatment afterall.
You can probably understand that I was elated to hear this good news. I continue to utilize the hydro floss every day, unless I’m out of town travelling.
If you wondered if the Hydro Floss is trully worth it – then, yes, it is! This opinion is simply built upon my experience with this device.
